"LEAVE NO VET BEHIND"
BY: Randy Caraballo-Rosa
The venue showcased local area pro boxers, such as Angel Figueroa (Lorain,OH), Antonio "Carita" Nieves (Cleveland OH), Wilkins Santiago (Lorain,OH), and Mark"Too Sharp"Davis (Cleveland,OH). Also in attendance were Mike"Main Event" Moore, MMA star Chris Lozano, Golden Boy Promotions Eddie Alicea, and Clevelands own Super Lightweight WBF Champion Silky Smooth Miguel Gonzalez.
The night had much more meaning than just the boxing. A portion of the proceeds  were being donated to the Cleveland VA Medical Center to support programs that aid in finding homes and jobs for returning vets. And the man behind it all, an Air Force veteran himself...Tim VanNewhowse.
The show got started with Angel Figueroa, who was making his pro debut. Figueroa pulled out the victory by split decision in a hard fought battle. Also making his debut was Antonio "Carita" Nieves. Carita dominated by leading with his jab and landing big right handed BOMBS! Nieves looks to be a fighter to watch. He too won  by decision but unanimously. Also wining by decision was the pride and joy of Lorain,OH Wilkins Santiago to improve to 4-0.
In the main event of the evening Clevelands Mark "Too Sharp" Davis beat Guillermo Sanchez by decision to stay undefeated and improve to (16-0). Davis having trouble landing from outside on the bigger Sanchez willed his way to the victory, by getting inside and landing big hooks to the body!
Newhouse Promotions made a big splash in there first event, selling over 1,000 tickets. When I spoke to VanNewhouse he told me "wait till the next one, bigger, better" . It's only fitting that on a night with exciting boxing on hand Mr. VanNewhouse held nothing back and pulled out all the punches!
CLEVELAD-Lights, camera, ACTION !!! On November 12th 2011, La Villa Conference and Banquet Center had the look and feel of Time Square on New Years Eve. NewHouse Promotions first event "Leave No Vet Behind" was in full swing, and the amazing light demonstration outside La Villa was just a glimpse of what was to come.
