Cleveland, OH: Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) and Teatro Publico de Cleveland present the US premiere of Mi Muñequita (My Little Doll) by Uruguayan playwright Gabriel Calderón. The workshop production will be directed by Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble member Dante Fernando Larzabal and will be performed, as written, in Spanish.
Mi Muñequita A contemporary farce by Uruguayan playwright Gabriel Calderón, Mi Muñequita revolves around a dysfunctional middle upper class family, where a young woman becomes a pawn in an elaborate revenge plot by her uncle against her father. Narrated by the family’s butler, the darkly comic play dances between “burlesque and grotesque” when the daughter adopts her doll as an alter ego.
**Due to sexual references and subject matter, Mi Muñequita is recommended for mature audiences only (ages 16+).
The show was written and will be performed in Spanish
The Teatro Publico de Cleveland Teatro Publico de Cleveland (TPdC) was created through the Cleveland Foundation’s “Engaging the Future” program. In partnership with the Cleveland Public Theatre, the program supported the growth of a Cleveland-based Latin American theatre ensemble, whose work reflects the artistic goals, interests and ideals of its members. The ensemble is comprised of amateur and experienced performers, and was founded through a series of free public workshops, open to community and presented in partnership with Cleveland’s Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center. Teatro Publico de Cleveland has performed two full-length productions, Cuando Cierras Your Eyes/When You Close Tus Ojos (2013) and A Recipe Para La Vida (2014), in addition to several original works performed at Cleveland Public Theatre special events, including at Station Hope (Dreams of Estrella del Norte) and at Pandemonium ’14 (Vuelo del Ocean). Mi Muñequita marks the first Teatro Publico de Cleveland performed entirely in Spanish and directed by a Teatro Publico de Cleveland ensemble member.
