Cuyahoga Community College Explores Life and Work of Iconic Mexican Painter Diego Rivera

Corporate College West hosts April 25 ‘Learning for Life’ lecture

WESTLAKE — Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) will examine the life and work of famed Mexican painter Diego Rivera during a “Learning for Life” lecture series program April 25 at Corporate College® West.

Rivera earned renown for his large public murals, which took art out of the gallery and into communities where more people could enjoy and appreciate its beauty. He often used his paintings to tell the story of the working class.

The discussion will explore Rivera’s style, beliefs and political philosophy. He was a dedicated Marxist who joined the Mexican Communist Party and later emerged as a counterculture symbol.

The presentation is part of the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Art to Go program, which offers interactive sessions that explore diverse cultures, time periods, materials and techniques.

The program will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in room 112 at Corporate College West, located at 25425 Center Ridge Road in Westlake. Registration is requested, though not required, and can be completed at www.tri-c.edu/LearningForLife.

The “Learning for Life” lecture series covers a range of topics important to the community. Call 216-987-5968 for more information.
