Don’t use children for political gain: zero tolerance

By Ricardo Colon

New policy separating families who seeking asylum in the US by crossing the border illegally has outrage many Americans who say it’s not very American.
What’s going on many parents are being split from their children each day — the children labeled “unaccompanied minors” and sent to government custody and the parents labeled criminals and sent to jail.
Between October 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018, at least 2,700 children have been split from their parents. 1,995 of them were separated over the last six weeks of that window — April 18 to May 31 — indicating that at present, an average of 45 children are being taken from their parents each day.

Pictures show children in cages some made from chicken wire and sleeping on floors or mats covered only with mylar foil blankets for warmth. Images also showed the stark white tents that the administration erected in Tornillo, Texas, to hold the children.

Latinos are angry over the new zero tolerance policy with condemnation coming from former first lady Lura Bush.
The act of separating children from parents is unamerican. The idea of locking up innocent children is cruel and now it’s a big problem for both party. Members of both parties have responded with their own legislative proposals to deal with the separations.

Democrats are expected to vote in lock step against republicans proposal and conservatives are leery of the measure, which they call “amnesty.”

The entire Senate Democratic caucus is backing a bill by Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, that would limit family separations at the border. In the House, Representative Jerrold Nadler, Democrat of New York, is expected to introduce a companion bill on Tuesday.
And on the Republican side, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, said Monday that he will propose legislation to double the number of federal immigration judges and authorize new temporary shelters so that families can remain together while their cases are expedited through immigration courts. His fellow Texan, Senator John Cornyn, the No. 2 Republican in the Senate, also said he has a plan to improve the immigration court process.

Children separation from their family for political gain has become a sad day in our American history. While the Trump administration claims it’s taking extraordinary measures in response to a temporary surge. This is entirely wrong and both parties are to blame for not being able to do pass comprehensive immigration reform. Both parties need to step it up to help these young children before they get permanent damage for life.
The Latino children are crying themselves to sleep because they don’t know where their parents are; one Honduran man killed himself in a detention cell after his child was taken from him.
We should hold all federal elected officials in Washington accountable for not taking action against this shameful policy of taking children from their parents. Has America loss what makes America the greatest country in the world? America is one nation under god with liberty and justices for all.

When good people do nothing, is when things go wrong and thats when bad things become worst. The time is now to speak out and take action. You can’t wait and hope that someone else will do something about this family separation problem. You need to call your congressperson and your us senator and tell them to stop blaming the other party. Do something about it. Each party is blaming the other and using the problem for political gain. This is getting old and the people are getting sick of elected officials doing what is best for their party. How about doing what’s best for the people and specially what’s best for all children. We the people have the power with our vote and many are letting others make poor decisions on their behalf. We all need to call our congressperson and us senate and tell them separation of children is cruel and very wrong. 844-872-0234.
