Don’t put off vaccination during pandemic
Hamilton County, OH – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that the Vaccines for Children program that provides vaccines to some 50 percent of U.S. children has experienced a “notable decrease” in vaccines ordered and administered between January and April 2020, vs. the same period in 2019.
“We’re seeing a similar situation in Hamilton County,” says interim health commissioner Greg Kesterman. “Our clinic vaccines are down 54 percent from January-June this year compared to the same period in 2019.”
In response, Hamilton County Public Health is reminding parents and caregivers not to put off childhood immunizations. Vaccines are available for children who are uninsured, under-insured or receiving Medicaid. An appointment is required. “The current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic is a reminder of the importance of vaccination,” Kesterman adds. “Our clinics are safe and fully prepared to administer vaccines.”
