Latina from Northeast Ohio Lexi Davila makes it on the TV show “The Voice”

Latina from Northeast Ohio Lexi Davila makes it to the battle round on NBC’s “The Voice” reality television show. From Amherst high school in Amherst Ohio, She is a junior in High school. “The Voice,” is a TV show where artists perform in the first round without being seen by four celebrity coaches — Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Pharrell Williams. If chosen, the performer advances based on voice and their delivery, and not on their appearance.
Lexi is the daughter of Nelly and Roberto Davila, who is assistant principal at Longfellow Middle School, 305 Louisiana Ave., Lorain.
Lexi got pick by Adam Levine and advanced to a duo song contest where she competed with Bren’nae Debarge and they sang “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. Both singers needed to get more familiar with the song before having preform on the show said Lexi, 17 her family is from Lorain Ohio.
“At first I was a little bit confused because, Bren’nae and I are more of what you might call soul singers,” Lexi said. “And this was more of a pop song. But once Adam started coaching with us, I understood how to do it. I thought we sounded really good.”
During battle rounds, artists sing duets but the coaches choose one and release the other singer of each pair. The knockout rounds are next, followed by audience voting. There is a downloadable free app for “The Voice” that enables the audience to vote.
Lexi enjoyed working with superstar artist Ellie Goulding who help them to prepare for the battle round. “She was so sweet,” Lexi said. “She had a really cool accent and I love accents. It was a really cool experience. I have a lot respect for Ellie Goulding. She’s a great artist and I love her music. Having someone like her to coach us was really awesome.”
“Usually I would be really shy, but since I had Bren’nae there going through it with me, it made it a lot easier,” she said. “Bren’nae became like a big sister. Before we did the battle, we kind of knew of each other, but we didn’t really get close until we started practicing together and that got us to become real close and supportive of each other.
“I think this whole experience so far has taught me that I should believe in myself more, I learn to just be myself and hope people will accept me and if they don’t, well, I just have to live with that.” Lexi also learned “I have to be comfortable in my own skin, especially if I want to be a singer and performer. And because of I have learned that I now have more confidence in what I’m doing. That’s what I’ve learned through this whole experience. When I’m at home and singing in the high school choir, I enjoy singing and being in a concerts and competing in singing contests. “It was really fun,” Lexi said. “I love being part of the big choir. I love harmonies with others. ”it’s what I enjoy about singing and preforming on the Voice and it helped me become a more confident as a person.”
Standing on the stage at “The Voice,” Lexi bundled up the talent, training and advice and to deliver my best to the audience and it was so special to me because I wanted show that with faith, support from my family and community you can achieve unbelievable things. I only hope that other Latinos see this and get motivated to go after their dreams. It took a lot of practice, hard work and faith, but it goes to show that you can do great things if you believe in yourself.
