Maureen Dee Honored for Work in Community

Advocate of Hispanic community receives award from Case Western Reserve University

CLEVELAND — Maureen Dee, a longtime advocate for the Hispanic community in Northeast Ohio, received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University.

The school honored Dee as one of its 100 Centennial Alumni Award winners in recognition of her work in the community. She also was inducted into the newly-established Mandel School Hall of Achievement.

The school at CWRU recognized 100 outstanding alumni as part of a centennial celebration commemorating its founding as America’s first university-affiliated professional school of social work. A ceremony took place Saturday, Oct. 15.

Dee graduated from the Mandel School in 1978 with a master’s of social science administration.

Born and raised in Uruguay, Dee has worked extensively as a bilingual social worker. She currently is executive director of treatment, prevention and recovery services at Catholic Charities, which provides behavioral health services in Greater Cleveland.

She also is a member of the Hispanic Roundtable, Hispanic Alliance, LATINA, Inc. and the Mandel School’s Visiting Committee at Case Western Reserve University. In addition, she serves on the Board of Trustees of the MetroHealth System and Scarborough House.
