Mayor Frank G. Jackson to Declare April 18th Superman Day in the City of Cleveland

CLEVELAND – On April 18, 2013, Mayor Frank G. Jackson will present a proclamation to the Siegel and Shuster Society proclaiming “Superman Day” in the City of Cleveland. The date marks the 75th anniversary of Superman’s 1938 appearance on the cover of DC’s “Action Comics” No. 1. Glenville area residents Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created the comic book hero during the Great Depression.
To commemorate the event, a Superman flag will be raised on the steps of City Hall with Superman in attendance; lights on City Hall and the Terminal Tower will be blue, red, and yellow; Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport will have cupcakes for travelers and a birthday card for the hero at its recently-installed Superman Exhibit and the city’s website and social media sites will feature citizen tributes to Superman. Residents (and fans of Superman near and far) are encouraged to send in their best Superman-poses via twitter #SuperCle or via email to communications@city.cleveland.oh.us. Residents are encouraged to attend the event and wear their Superman clothing!
