Rebecca is making it happen in the Latino scene with her dancing. She has been an important part of some big Latino events like the Tri-C Latin Jazz Fest , Cleveland Museum of Art Celebrate Latin American Music and Salsa Dance, and the Cuyahoga County Fair Latino Cultural Night just to name a few. She has a great way of getting people excited about Latin Dance and puts on a great show.
Cleveland native, Rebecca Sweet, became a professionally recognized dancer, shortly after earning her bachelor’s degree from Smith College in Dance. From Massachusetts, she moved to New York City, where she invested 10 years performing, instructing and competing professionally in International Latin and American Rhythm competitions.
For several years, the Eddie Torres Latin Dance Company of New York City, featured Rebecca on both the national and global dance stage. She served as the Dance Director for Paul Pellicoro’s DanceSport, the largest partner dance studio in Manhattan. Before transitioning into International Latin dance, Rebecca’s first dancing partner was Tony Dovolani with ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Now she is working as a dance teacher.
While living in New York, Rebecca was recruited to work with Robert DeNiro, Daman Wayans, Winton Marsaliis, Chayanne & Vanessa Williams, as well
Rebecca Sweet is making a big impression on the Salsa dance scene
as other well-known artists. From there, she went on to perform across the United States, Latin America and Europe. She performed on stage with Wynton Marsalis at Alice Tulley Hall and at serveral Mid-Summer Night Swing events at Lincoln Center. She even danced on stage at the famous Copacabana Salsa Club. Her competitive dancing career has taken her across Europe and the Mediterranean where she either won and/or placed in finals in open and rising start competitions.
After her successful career in New York and abroad, Rebecca returned to northeastern Ohio, where she co-opened her own dance studio. She continued to perform, compete and teach. Being a passionate organizer of shows and performances, she served as Show Director and featured performer for the Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland, Southwest General Hospital and for Tri-C’s Latin Jazz Festivals.
Rebecca has continued to perform publicly with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra at Severance Hall, at Playhouse Square, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Detroit Institute of Art. She has also judged numerous Salsa competitions at the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame and the IX Center.
Rebecca has appeared locally on Channels 5 and 19 in Cleveland versions of Dancing with the Stars. She has been featured in numerous newspapers, magazines and television commercials. Rebecca’s boundless energy, enthusiasm and knowledge of dance make her one of the most sought after figures in this industry.
Rebecca is the one to watch when it comes learning and watching Latino dancing. She is one of the best, and the Latino community is really enjoying her talents.
