The Cleveland Plan: A Model for Education Reform

hui

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, was recently in town to talk about education reform efforts, meet with area superintendents, and discuss The Cleveland Plan. Mayor Frank G. Jackson, CEO of Cleveland Metropolitan School District Eric Gordon, State Representative Armond Budish, and other city and state officials joined Secretary Duncan for brief remarks and a panel discussion about The Cleveland Plan held at Anton Grdina Elementary School.

Cleveland could become a model for education reform nationwide because of the innovative, bipartisan and all inclusive process used to successfully pass State legislation, which made The Cleveland Plan possible.

The goals of the Cleveland Plan include increasing graduation rates and college enrollment, building the capacity of quality teachers and administrators, redirecting low-performing schools and partnering with high performing charter schools. These efforts and more will lead to significant improvements in the performance of Cleveland students and the school district as a whole.
