Students petition for more than 1,500 degrees and certificates
CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) will celebrate the academic achievements of more than 1,500 petitioning graduates during its fourth annual Fall Commencement at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17.
The College has been asked to confer 1,507 associate degrees and certificates of completion at the graduation ceremony. That’s an increase of nearly 4 percent from last year’s Fall Commencement.
“The economic vitality of Northeast Ohio depends on a trained and educated workforce,” said Alex Johnson, president of Tri-C. “The graduates of Cuyahoga Community College provide a foundation to build a better tomorrow in our community.”
The College also will award an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters to Betty Rosskamm to recognize her commitment to Tri-C, its students and the Northeast Ohio community.
Rosskamm and her late husband, Martin, grew one small fabric store into Jo-Ann Stores — the nation’s leading fabric and crafts retailer. A generous philanthropist, she and her family established the Betty Rosskamm Nursing Scholarship Fund at Tri-C to make nursing education accessible.
The student Commencement speaker will be Kenneth Dunn, who will earn an Associate of Science. Dunn served as a student senator at Tri-C’s Western Campus in Parma, where he spearheaded efforts to make the campus a member agency of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. He intends to become a physician’s assistant.
Tri-C began Fall Commencement in 2012 to accommodate the College’s growing number of graduates and provide an additional opportunity for students to celebrate their academic achievements.
This year’s ceremony will be held at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, located at 2000 Prospect Ave. in Cleveland.
