CLEVELAND – It’s another nice day in June. And inside the Z 107.9 radio station…it’s blazing hot!!! As we make our way to the studio, Kristian Santana and I listen to Cleveland’s own DJ Latin Assassin host his weekly “Shut It Down Show”
The Ohio Hip Hop Award winner is showcasing why he has been crowned “Personality of the Year” four years and running! On arrival the popular DJ greets us with some Rican love, and quickly tells us “come on let me show you where the magic happens”. During breaks throughout his four hour long show (Mon-Fri 6pm-10pm), Latin Assassin sheds light on the man behind the MIC.

Latin, a Lincoln-West High School graduate has been an on- air personality for over a decade.  His love for entertainment started “back in the 1148 days” when he would see Leeann Summers hype up the crowd.  And the DJ doesn’t forget those that did it before him, he pays homage to the likes of DJ Benny Velez, DJ Eppi, to Angie Martinez and Sam Silk.

But now its Latin’s turn! Arguably the best DJ in OHIO, Latin is on his quest to capture his fifth “Personality of the Year” award in as many years. Keep in mind that’s an award given to the best in the STATE! The Porter-Rock DJ is in heavy rotation in Cleveland! From Reggaeton star “Cosculluella” to doing a live broadcast from the crowd jamming “Club Sin” on Saturday’s…..he’s there. But with all the accomplishment’s, getting to tour with councilman Kevin Conwell, and shaking hands with Lil Wayne…..the person he looks up too most?…. Lil Edgar!
The Puerto Rican DJ was born Edgar Bentacourt in the Bronx, NY. At the age of five he moved to Cleveland where he was raised by his grandparents. Latin now 35 and his wife Jessica have three children, Nicolas (10), Alana (7) and “Lil” Edgar (5). But before he turned three years old, Lil Edgar was diagnosed with Autism. “He used to talk, but now he doesn’t say a word. But I believe he will talk one day again, that’s my inspiration” say’s the bilingual DJ. In 2012 he hopes to start a non- profit organization to raise Autism awareness.
And after 10 years and all the trial and tribulations, he could’ve just walked away and quit. But unlike No.23, he is still bringing the HEAT, even on the coldest December days in Cleveland!
