President Barack Obama believes a “window of opportunity” for a military strike on Iran will open in June, an Israeli TV report alleged.
The segment, which aired on Channel 10 Monday evening, reported that Obama would communicate this belief to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his March visit to Israel.
Should diplomatic efforts and sanctions fail, Obama will allegedly tell Netanyahu to “sit tight” and let Washington take the lead on Iran. Citing unnamed officials, the segment said that the US would ask Netanyahu to keep a low profile and refrain from any military action.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that a nuclear Iran is “simply unacceptable” and warned that the time for an effective diplomatic solution is running out.
“As we have repeatedly made clear, the window for a diplomatic solution simply cannot remain open forever,” said Kerry. “But it is open today. It is open now and there is still time, but there is only time if Iran makes the decision to come to the table and to negotiate in good faith.”
“We are prepared to negotiate in good faith, in mutual respect, in an effort to avoid whatever terrible consequences could follow failure, and so the choice really is in the hands of the Iranians. And we hope they will make the right choice,” Kerry added.
