Cleveland, Ohio-On Monday, November 23, 2015 at 11:30am, in front of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, members of the Hispanic Community, along with other community leaders of Greater Cleveland will convene in support of Pablo Castro, as he enters to file his petitions to officially run for Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge.
Castro, 40, a magistrate-judge for the Cleveland Municipal Court since 2007, is running for Judge in the Court of Common Pleas of Cuyahoga County, a seat held by Judge José A. Villanueva since 1988. Judge Villanueva’s term expires at the end of 2016, and he will not be seeking reelection.
“I feel that my humble family background, grass roots, faith-based community involvement, and history working with my legal colleagues gives me the advantages to maintain the consistency in diversity already established on the Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court, “says Castro.
Castro is the son of Mexican immigrants who supported their family working as migrant farm workers in Ohio and throughout the U.S. He serves his community, remembering the struggles of his childhood and living in a tough economic environment.
Castro has worked for more than 15 years in public service, including six years as a Cuyahoga County Prosecutor and eight years on the bench. As a prosecutor, he advocated mightily to protect the entire community. He successfully prosecuted numerous criminal offenses, including murder, rape, robbery, burglary, and other crimes. At the same time, he was a zealous advocate for victims’ rights. As magistrate judge, he established an outstanding reputation for integrity, capability, and service as he presided over hundreds of civil matters providing access to justice and due process to all who appeared before him.
Currently, this is the only political office held by a Hispanic. And for nearly 30 years, this seat has been occupied by a Hispanic.
“The Hispanic community is proud to support Magistrate Judge Pablo Castro. He is extraordinarily well-qualified. The Hispanic community, and its leadership, wishes to express that support by joining Pablo at the time of his filing his petitions to assist him to succeed one of the premier jurists in Cuyahoga County, Judge José Villanueva,” said José C Feliciano chairman of the Hispanic Roundtable.
Castro is running in the March 15, 2016 primaries as a Democrat. He lives in Broadview Heights with his wife, Summer, and their three children.
