Young Hispanic leaders get recognized by OCHLA and Crain’s

Magda-GomezCleveland, Ohio –The Hispanic Roundtable of Cleveland congratulates Luis Cartagena and Jose Feliciano Jr., for having recently received recognition for their outstanding leadership and service to the community.

 Luis Cartagena, who serves as Strategic Planning Business Advisor for the MBDA Business Center/Greater Cleveland Partnership, received the Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan Award from the Ohio Commission of Hispanic and Latino Affairs (OCHLA)* for having demonstrated outstanding achievement in his professional and community service endeavors, and for serving as a role model for the growing Hispanic community in Ohio.

 In his daily life, Cartagena is focused on helping minority-owned business enterprises create and retain jobs, as well as secure capital and procurement opportunities.

 Cartagena serves as Vice President of the Hispanic Roundtable Community Programs, is actively engaged in the community through initiatives focused on leadership development and civic engagement, and is also Co-Chair, of Convencion Hispana.

 Cartagena also serves on the Board of Trustees for Saint Luke’s Foundation, and is a member of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Audit Committee. He is the current Chairman of the Hispanic Business Center, the sister organization to the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  Cartagena also serves as a member of Crain’s Business Diversity Council.

José Feliciano, Jr., employed as a business analyst for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA), has received the Crain’s 40 under 40 award** for his professional success and civic contributions.

 Feliciano, Jr., is a dedicated member of the Latino community, and is serving his second term as Commissioner of OCHLA.

Feliciano Jr., also serves on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Roundtable, and among his many contributions to the Hispanic community, has served two terms as President of Young Latino Network (YLN), is a member of National Society of Hispanic MBA’s (NSHMBA), and was a community partner for Convención Hispana 2013.

 “Based on the accomplishments of these two young’ dynamic leaders, the future of the Hispanic community is indeed bright and promising. To be sure, they are great role models and exemplify what it is to give back to our community,” says Jose C. Feliciano, Chairman of the Hispanic Roundtable.

 *OCHLA was created in 1977 to advise the Governor, the Ohio General Assembly, and the state government agencies on all matters affecting Hispanic Ohioans.  In addition, OCHLA connects the diverse Latino communities across the State of Ohio by serving as a hub of information for Hispanic Ohioans, and builds capacity of Latino community organizations.

**Crain’s Forty under 40 program is now in its 24th year, and has honored over 900 individuals for their professional success and civic contributions.

The Hispanic Roundtable is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to act as a catalyst to empower the Hispanic Community to become full partners in the economic, education, political, civic, and social life of Greater Cleveland.
