Last week, the Ohio Latino Affairs Commission was proud to host its annual Hispanic Legislative Visit Day. The event convened nearly 300 community leaders from across the state to foster dialogue with each other and with legislators on the challenges and opportunities facing Ohio’s Hispanic community. The full-day event included legislative panels, lobbying and policy workshops, a networking luncheon, a keynote address, and breakout sessions on topics ranging from Immigration and Civil Rights to Electing Latinos to Office.
This year, we were joined by nearly 90 students from Trotwood-Madison, Whitehall Yearling and Columbus West High Schools, as well as Columbus Bilingual Academy. We are immensely grateful for their participation and leadership.
Nearly 50 legislators attended our event, and we were able to coordinate many formal meetings between our participants and their state senators and representatives.
