The Cleveland Public Theatre is usually known for their African American/ Euro based plays. That was soon to change. On October 16th 2014, Cleveland Public Theatre decided to bring a bit of diversity to the Ohio City area by adding a dash of Latin flavor on stage with their world premiere performance of “A Recipe Para La Vida”. Backstage prior to the performance, the theatre greeted and entertained their guests with an array of cultural sounds performed live by an authentic Latin band. Along with a spectacular arrangement of delicious hor dourves ranging from different parts of Latin America including Mexico, Puerto Rico and Peru. Adding to the somewhat intimate yet casual atmosphere of the theatre itself, wine along with other age appropriate beverages were offered to guests upon their request as well. As a great transition into the performance of “A Recipe Para La Vida”. The audience of not only Latino descent but of all backgrounds were able to associate themselves with the characters. The performance itself did not only depict how much food is a part of society, but also how one simple ingredient and one scent can bring back a memory. Where a recipe shared can last for generations.
