AN INTERVIEW WITH MAKEUP ARTIST JULIANN O’FRAY BETTER KNOWN AS “JEWLZ”

EMBRACING CREATIVITY & BEAUTY

By Ivan Gomez

It was my absolute pleasure to interview Jewlz , who took time out of his super-busy schedule to chat with us, Juliann O’Fray, better known as “Jewlz” she’s one of the leading makeup artists in the fashion world with a unique tilt toward enriching beauty in Cleveland and surrounding areas

Jewlz story is one that exemplifies the power of originality and creativity: being a self-starter; working with what you have; keeping your dream alive and working hard to achieve your passion.

Juliann thanks for your time, so, tell us, how long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start in the industry?
I’ve been beautifying faces for nearly 8 years. I started off selling my paintings, once I was old enough to wear makeup (I’d say around 17 or 18 years old) my curiosity set in.

Who are some people that have inspired you throughout your career?
I get inspired by anything, from the weather to a do-it-yourself video I watch to see if I can do something similar or better.

What do you love most about makeup?
I love most about my profession is making people feel happy, i love seeing everyone’s face once I’m finished. Beatifying people brings so much joy to my heart.

If you weren’t a makeup artist, what else would you do?
If I weren’t doing makeup I would probably be painting more and tailoring some fabric. I love to create.

What is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists here is Cleveland?

What sets me apart from other people is that I don’t try to change your look. I enhance the beauty, everybody is beautiful. I don’t want anyone ever feeling like they aren’t themselves.

What are some common beauty mistakes that girls make?
I’d say the most common mistake is that over time we lose the shape of our natural eyebrows. We pluck and pluck until we lost the shape, I’ll admit it’s hard not to fall victim.

What’s your favorite makeup brush or tool?
My favorite tool is the angled eyeliner brush. It’s different because you basically have to draw using a tiny brush.

What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?
The best advice I have given to the ladies is just to learn your face, everyone has something different going on and no one will ever know you better than yourself.

Anything else you want to say, any shout out?
I’d like to thank my partner Elvis Torres for keeping me motivated.
