Cleveland, OH., June 20, 2018– Latin leaders throughout Northeast Ohio are coming together in response to the recent Ohio ICE Deportation Raids. A press conference will be held at the FREE Stamp oat the northwest corner of East 9th and Lakeside Avenue at 9:00 AM on Thursday, June 21st, 2018.
Local leaders are convening to call out the recent workplace raids that have been enforced under the Trump administration and the effects of the raids on Latin communities throughout Ohio. Targeted workplace raids in Castalia and Sandusky, Ohio on June 5th led to approximately 114 arrests. The second large-scale workplace raid took place on June 19th, 2018 in Massillon, Ohio with over 140 arrests which has now been called “the largest workplace enforcement action to take place under the Trump Administration” by Steve Francis, lead special agent of Ice’s Homeland Security Investigation unit.
Leaders from HOLA, the organization at the forefront of remediation efforts, will be present at the press conference. Other local organizations participating include the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Center for Economic Development, Northeast Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Alliance, Inc., local elected officials from the City of Cleveland as well as the city of Lorain, local business leaders, as well as Faith-based congregations.
Over 100 community members are anticipated to be present at the press conference.
