CLEVELAND – Mayor Jackson has launched a new public service announcement encouraging all Clevelanders to seek a vaccination this flu season. “We know that Ebola is a very dangerous disease; however, there are many other infectious diseases that are treatable and preventable,”
says Mayor Jackson in the announcement. “That is why I am asking each of you to go and get your flu shots today, do your part.” The public service announcement is part of a campaign called “Focus on Flu” by the Cleveland Department of Public Health and area partners to inform residents on the dangers of the flu, increase vaccination numbers, and provide information on where to find flu vaccinations. “Influenza can be mild to severe, sometimes even fatal,” said Director of Public Health Toinette Parrilla. “Each year between 5 percent and 20 percent of the population is infected, 200,000 people are hospitalized, and 36,000 people die from influenza in the United States.” “Simple practices such as a vaccination, washing your hands, and remaining home if ill can increase your overall well-being and that of your loved ones.”
The Cleveland Department of Public Health will offer free flu vaccinations (nasal and traditional shots) at various locations throughout the City of Cleveland. The 2014 flu vaccination schedule can be found here:
